What's a manicule?

Do you know the name for the symbol you sometimes see that looks like 
a pointing finger? It's called a manicule (from the latin root for 
hand, 'manus'). It's also known as an index or "printer's fist" 
(despite not being an actual fist). There are surprisingly few books 
about manicules, despite being rather lovely. I like to collect them,
